Handicapping at Warren House
The first of an exciting programme of speakers for the Warren House Racing Club, Phil Smith, the BHA’s Head of Handicapping, could not have got us off to a better start. After presenting the main aims of the handicapper, Phil then took us through the handicapping process for two very different races: Frankel’s outstanding victory in the Group 1 Juddmonte International Stakes at York in August 2012 and John Biscuit’s disappointing seventh place last time out in the Investec Property Investments City and Suburban Stakes at Epsom.
Handicappers are often criticised by the media, trainers, race-goers and punters, but Phil Smith gave us a real insight into the difficult decisions the handicappers have to make and the logical process that leads to the published ratings. Phil was faced with some tough questions from our members and associates throughout the evening, but had an answer for everyone and we can now appreciate the hard work put in by the team of handicappers at the BHA.
Huge thanks to Phil Smith for such an informative and entertaining evening. We will be putting our newly acquired knowledge to good use at our next race meeting!
A morning with the Baldings at Park House Stables
Warren House Racing Club Members & Guests enjoyed superb hospitality from Andrew & Anna Lisa Balding and all the team at Kingsclere on Friday 5th April. Our morning started with breakfast and an informal chat with Andrew & Anna Lisa, before we headed out on our stable tour to meet some of the stars of the yard, such as Side Glance, recently returned from a successful trip to Dubai for the Dubai World Cup, as well as the Warren House Racing Club sponsored horses. We then saw the horses warm up in the covered horse walker before braving the cold to see them exercise on the gallops. Our tour ended in the tack room, which Anna Lisa informed us was once used as Mill Reef’s operating theatre!
We enjoyed an amazing, relaxed and informative morning in undoubtedly one of the best equipped and most beautiful private training facilities in the world. We look forward to visiting again and would like to thank Andrew and Anna Lisa for their warm welcome and for teaching us so much about life in one of the best training establishments in the country.
Warren House Racing Club Launch Event
After a successful pre-launch event, Warren House Racing Club members and guests were treated to another informative and enjoyable evening in the Ballroom at Warren House on Friday 22nd March. We would like to thank all our members, guests and associates for making it such a successful event and we are looking forward to the exciting speaker events and activities we have planned for the coming year.
Dr Brown started off the evening by saying a few words about the club and about his experience as an owner and as a breeder. Vicky Good, Warren House historian, then gave a revealing talk about how horse racing has been inextricably linked to the history of Warren House itself, a tradition that we are proud to uphold. Susie McKeever, from McKeever Bloodstock, then gave us further insight to the bloodstock industry and the role of a bloodstock agent at the sales, before Michael Wilding finished off the talks with some very useful tips on betting strategy.
The evening was a great indication of the fascinating speaker events we have planned throughout the year and we were delighted to present our full calendar of events, also including race meetings, stable tours and a visit to the prestigious Watership Down Stud.
Pre Launch Event
We would like to thank all our Associates, especially Andrew Balding, Johnny McKeever, Simon Dow and Stephen Harrison and all our of our guests for their support and input into what was a wonderful evening at the Pre Launch Event here at Warren House on Tuesday.
After a warm welcome from Dr Brown we were entertained and educated with talks from Trainers Andrew Balding and Simon Dow, Bloodstock Agent Johnny McKeever and Stephen Harrison our Geneticist.
Our local racecourses showed promotional videos of their courses and gave us a flavour of the exclusive packages and privileges that would be on offer to our members throughout the season.
Information packs were available to our guests and each were asked to complete a short questionnaire about themselves and their interest in racing but also to indicate out of the many Speakers and Events we have to offer which they felt would be the most attractive to them. We will be compiling that information and putting together a unique Calendar of Events for the coming year which will be available very soon.
If you would like a copy of the information pack, a membership application or any further information please don’t hesitate to call Sue Mead at Warren House on 0208 974 7115 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
